Pope-Benedict-waveThe Pope is visiting Edinburgh on Thursday 16th September. He will arrive at Edinburgh Airport and will travel directly to the Palace of Holyroodhouse where he will be received by Her Majesty the Queen and attend a reception in his honour.  After that he will travel along Princes Street and Lothian Road before heading to Glasgow.

Security will be tight and there will be major road closures on the 16th to allow the Papal procession to take place . Please see details below.

On 16 September 2010 the following services will not operate at all.

  • Edinburgh Tour
  • City Sightseeing
  • MacTours City Tour


The following services will be operating but will depart from St. Andrew Square.

Majestic Tour (amended timetable with extra buses and will depart from the south side of St. Andrew Square all day)
Bus and Boat Tour (normal timetable departing from the south side of St. Andrew Square all day)

AIRLINK (Service 100)  (normal timetable departing St. Andrew Square, will return to the normal city centre departure point on Waverley Bridge once roads re-open approx 1530 hrs). 

Traffic will be much heavier than normal due to the road closures associated with the event so please allow extra time for your journey to Edinburgh Airport.
